Waking up from deep slumber, the UT Vigilance Department, which had failed to lay even a single trap during 2014, has already laid four traps on government employees this year and has arrested them while taking bribe.

This year, 24 Vigilance inquiries have been initiated so far as compared to 15 during the previous year.

The Vigilance Department has got active and has started laying traps after receiving complaints. Three of the four traps were laid in June.

Sources said following the arrests made by Vigilance sleuths, the department had started receiving a large number of complaints regarding corruption in government offices.

A large number of Vigilance inquiries have been ordered in the past few months.

The sources said Vigilance sleuths had instructions to act on complaints without any delay.

Maneesh Chaudhary, SSP (Traffic/Security-cum-in charge of the Vigilance cell), said the UT Adviser had initiated a campaign against corruption following which several Vigilance inquiries had been initiated and traps laid. “The Adviser has strengthened the Vigilance Department. We have got additional staff and a proposal for video cameras to be used at the time of laying traps and the purchase of a new vehicle for the department has been approved,” the SSP said.

The SSP said on the lines of the CBI, the Vigilance Department had also been asked to prepare a detailed chargesheet of cases before filing them in the court.
