The police have booked an AIIMS doctor and members of his family for allegedly abetting the suicide of his wife, who was an anesthesiologist with a local hospital. The deceased, identified as Dr Sonam Motis (29), reportedly committed suicide after injecting a heavy dosage of medication (yet to be identified) at her rented accommodation in Sector 43 here on Tuesday.

A former senior resident at AIIMS, Sonam had married Dr Shikhar Mor in May last year.

Because of marital discord, she started living separately in September this year. Her family blamed Dr Mor and his family.

On a complaint by Sonam’s father Onkar Lal Motis, an FIR has been registered against Dr Mor, his mother and other members of the family under Sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC at the Sushant Lok police station.

In his complaint, Motis said that within a few days of the wedding, Sonam learnt that her husband was a drug addict. Once, he wanted her to try marijuana. She was admitted to AIIMS this year after her mother-in-law thrashed her.

“Dr Mor sent Sonam to my home in July, claiming her leg was fractured in an accident. When she returned in September, Dr Mor refused to live with her. She took up a job in Gurugram and started living in a rented accommodation. My daughter went through hard times because of her husband and in-laws. I want strict action,” Motis said.

The police said Sonam had quit her job 18 days ago. On Tuesday morning, Motis made several calls to her which went unanswered. He then called the watchman, who informed the house owner.

When cops broke into the house, they found Sonam lying near a bed in a pool of blood. Syringes and medicines were lying on the bed.

The body was handed over to her family after postmortem. Dr Pawan Chaudhary, who conducted the postmortem, said the cause of death was drug overdose, though the viscera had been sent for chemical examination.
