The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice of motion to the state of Haryana and other respondents on a petition seeking directions to stop the plying of overloaded trucks and trolleys on the Yamunanagar-Karnal stretch.

The directions were also sought to impound the overloaded vehicles so that the "lives of people and children" could be saved. In the petition filed by Sukhdev Singh through counsel Ranjan Lakhanpal, it was added that there were several schools located on the route and the lives of the students were in danger because of plying of heavy-duty trucks.

Lakhanpal added it was difficult to manage these trucks and the police was doing nothing about it. Hence, the vehicles were causing accidents. He also claimed that as many as 40 accidents had taken place due to overloaded trucks on the route.
