15 houses damaged in avalanche

CHAMBA: As many as 15 houses were damaged in an avalanche in the Sural area of Pangi sub-division, Chamba district, last evening. Chamba Deputy Commissioner Harikesh Meena said no loss of life or livestock had so far been reported, adding that a rescue team had been sent to the area. The Deputy Commissioner said it could take some time for the rescue team to reach the place as the valley was covered under thick snow. Meena advised the people to take precautions and avoid going to avalanche-prone areas. Most roads are still closed in the state, making it difficult for the administration to send help. OC
