Tobacco sale: Hearing on April 24

SHIMLA: The High Court has taken suo moto cognisance of the illegal sale of tobacco products in the state.

Shimla, April 20

The High Court has taken suo moto cognisance of the illegal sale of tobacco products in the state.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Ajay Mohan Goel has directed the counsel for the state to seek instructions in this regard and listed the matter on April 24.

It was alleged in the letter that despite a ban on tobacco products, shopkeepers were selling these openly. The products were banned in the state from October 2, 2012, onwards. The petitioner urged the court to take appropriate action against violators. — TNS
