Una drainage project stalled for lack of funds

Paucity of funds has stalled the Rs 23 crore rain water drainage project for Una. The project was announced by CM Virbhadra Singh three years ago. A detailed project report was also prepared, but lack of funds has put brakes on the scheme.

NM Saini, SE, IPH, said the project was aimed at cleaning, re-grading and lining drains so as to increase their water carrying capacity towards the adjoining tributaries of the Swan river. He said the report was forwarded to the flood control wing of the department for implementation, but nothing could be done due to lack of funds.

A big portion of Una, including Ward Nos 1, 9 and 10, Old Bus Stand, Mini-Sectt, besides the DC’s residence get flooded during the monsoon. The project was proposed to be funded under the Rs 922 crore Swan River Flood Management Project. — OC
