Youth nabbed with 310 gram opium

The police are tightening its noose around the drug peddlers with a team of Kasauli police nabbing a 22-year old youth Ankush Kumar with 310 grams opium near Kharog village this evening.

DSP Yogesh Rolta said the police had laid a routine naka when they spotted Ankush in suspicious circumstances.

A search of his bag revealed the contraband. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered and further investigations were under way to find its source.

The arrested youth, who was a local, was on the lookout to sell the contraband when the police nabbed him.

He had earlier too been arrested with sedative capsules by the Dharampur police. He was a habitual offender.

The Solan police had also arrested five youth with 37.03 grams heroin on June 6, including 22.21 grams from a car near Parwanoo and 14.82 grams from the rented accommodation of a youth at Solan earlier this week.

While the rising number of cases of drug peddling was a cause for concern, the police were focusing attention on the drug suppliers. A Nigerian had been arrested this year by the Dharampur police.

It was observed that youth in the early 20s and 30s were found its consumers as well as its suppliers for the lure of easy money, said Rolta.

Not only had the consumption of heroin increased in the area but a large number of unemployed youth were lured to sell it as it fetched huge monetary gains.
