BSF Senior Secondary School, Jammu, has been ranked first for the 4th consecutive year among day-cum-boarding schools in J&K according to the Education World India School rankings 2019. The school was felicitated during a ceremony organised by the Education World held at Gurugram on September 28 and 29. India's top schools in different categories were felicitated. BSF School, Jammu, ranked 9th among India's Top 10 Extraordinary Leadership in Education World Grand Jury Awards 2019-20. A function was held at the Frontier Headquarters to felicitate school principal SK Shukla.

Change in school timings

The Directorate of School Education, Jammu, (DSEJ) has ordered change in the school timings. "All the government as well as private recognised schools up to higher secondary level falling under Summer Zones of Jammu division shall observe school timing 9 am to 3 pm within municipal limits and 10 am to 4 pm in rural areas," a DSEJ order said.

Sports meet concludes 

A two-day sports-cum-athletics meet of Humanity Public School, Bassi Kalan (Bari Brahmana), concluded on Monday. Faisal Qureshi, Additional Superintendent of Police, Samba, was the chief guest. The main attractions of the closing day were aerobics, kho-kho, basketball, king of the circle, spoon lemon race, balloon bursting and one leg race. Later, the chief guest presented medals and trophies to the winners.

Lecture on investment awareness  

The Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), University of Jammu (JU), in association with National Stock Exchange of India Ltd on Monday organised an extension lecture on "Investment Awareness Programme" for the students of M.Com 1st semester. The lectures will also be delivered on Tuesday. The programme was organised as per the guidelines of the Stock Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The programme was formulated by Dr Rupa Mahajan, lecturer in commerce. Professor Rajni Kant, DDE Director, apprised the students about the kind of savings and investment techniques which used to be in place before liberalisation took place in India.

College holds cleanliness drive 

The NSS unit of Government Degree College (GDC), Kathua, organised a rally under the Swachhta Hi Sewa campaign on Monday. Principal of the college Assa Ram Sharma flagged of the rally. In his address, the Principal stressed the need to say no to use of polythene and plastics. The rally started from the college and culminated at Shiva Nagar. Later, NSS volunteers visited Government Medical College (GMC), Kathua, and conducted a cleanliness drive on the hospital premises.

Entrepreneurship prospects 

The Institution Innovation Council (IIC) and University Business Incubation and Innovation Centre (UBIIC), University of Jammu (JU), on Monday organised an invited talk on 'My Story - Entrepreneur's Life and Crossroad - Motivational Speech' at the School of Biotechnology Seminar Hall. Dr Siddharth Manvati, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Foresight Biotech Pvt Ltd was the speaker who shared his experiences and examples. He highlighted that one must have managerial skills coupled with a calculated risk taking capacity for getting success. He discussed about the various opportunities in the field of entrepreneurship and elaborated the current innovative business scenario of the country.

Say no to plastic

The NSS unit of Government Degree College (GDC), Jindrah, organised an event on collection of single use plastic and awareness rally on say no to plastic on Monday. Kalpana Kesar, Principal of the college, was also present on the occasion. Proceedings of the programme were initiated by Dr Sunil Dutt Sharma who was assisted by Ambika Dogra. The volunteers collected 10 kg of plastic bottles.

Lecture on Jallianwala Bagh 

The Department of History, University of Jammu (JU), on Monday organised a lecture on the topic "Remembering Jallianwala Bagh" under the banner of major debates in Indian history. The speaker on the occasion was Prof KL Tuteja, a professor from Kurukshetra University, who spoke on the suppression of mass movement in Punjab during 1919. He emphasised how Punjab of those times was strategically important for the British and how it could serve their imperial interests.

J&K team wins medals

The J&K team bagged medals in the recently concluded North Zone Qwan Ki Do Championship-2019 organised by the Qwan Ki Do Federation of India at Sonepat in Haryana. A total 12 members of the J&K team participated in this sporting event and won seven medals, including three gold and four bronze.
