Jammu, November 16

After the successful experiment of keeping question papers at police stations to minimise chances of leakage in board exams, the J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) will now depute a whole new team of superintendents and deputy superintendents at all examination centres in the upcoming annual exams of the summer zone (Jammu province).

The annual (regular) exams of secondary and higher secondary classes are likely to start in the last week of February or first week of March.

Sources said the decision of the board to keep the question papers at police stations had proved effective in keeping a check on leakage of question papers. The practice, which was started two years back, will continue in future. They said in order to strengthen the examination system, the board will now do away with deputing old staff as superintendents/ deputy superintendents in the upcoming exams.

The sources said those officials who were assigned the task last year will not be allowed to perform the same duties in the upcoming examination. New officials will be assigned the task at all examination centres across the region.

Another reason behind deputing a new team is thatit came to the fore that in some cases, superintendents/deputy superintendents, who were performing duties for many years and belonged to the same area, helped aspirants in copying, especially in far-flung districts.

Such practices had dented the image of board wherein questions were raised over the conduct of examination in a fair manner.

“Yes, those officials who had performed the duty previously will not be allowed to do the same tasks again. Also, those officials who belong to the area where the examination centre will be set up shall be deputed to another centre. They will not be given charge of the home centre,” a board official said.
