Jammu & Kashmir Governor NN Vohra recommended Governor’s rule in the state on Tuesday evening after Bharatiya Janata Party pulled out of the state government, forcing Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to step down.

Vohra took his decision in consultation with all political parties in the state and sent a report to President for imposition of Governor’s rule in J&K. No political party has staked claim to form government in the state.

Governor Vohra has asked Mufti to continue in office until other arrangements are made.

The BJP announced it was pulling out of the government on Tuesday afternoon, citing declining security conditions in the state and blaming Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP, the dominant component in the state partnership, for not doing enough.

Mufti stepped down soon after, indicating she had expected the decision. She also blamed her party’s alliance with the BJP for its increasing unpopularity in the state.
