Complete overhaul of city on the cards: MLAs

JALANDHAR: Congress MLAs from Jalandhar Pargat Singh, Sushil Kumar Rinku, Bawa Henry and Rajinder Beri said today that the ‘Smart City'' project would give further lead to growth and development of the city in a planned manner, thereby facilitating people.

Congress MLAs from Jalandhar Pargat Singh, Sushil Kumar Rinku, Bawa Henry and Rajinder Beri said today that the ‘Smart City' project would give further lead to growth and development of the city in a planned manner, thereby facilitating people.

The MLAs said a complete overhaul of the city was on cards with the project. They also said the city would have a unified command control room for all emergency services such as police and fire.

They said the project would also ensure Intelligent Traffic Management System in the city, adding that the public transport system would be further strengthened through the introduction of smart buses.

The MLAs added that the city would also have rooftop solar plants on government buildings, road-sweeping machines, safety, security and utility ducting in inner areas, green area development, façade improvement of the city railway station and installation of escalator, smart roads, smart parking, disaster management plan, construction of public toilets, fibre optics and wi-fi spots, CNG autos, e-rickshaws, way finding and traffic signage, cycle tracks, traffic management and pedestrian facilities, GIS mapping, solid waste management, tree pruning and sewage recycling machines, smart bus stops, smart parking, digital library, water supply infrastructure augmentation, sewerage infrastructure, storm water drainage infrastructure, rain water harvesting, besides other facilities.
