Complete overhaul of record rooms from October, says DC

In a step aimed at overhauling the existing record rooms in the district, the Deputy Commissioner, Varinder Kumar Sharma, today said the work on preserving the vital records of the district on scientific lines would start from the coming month (October).

The Deputy Commissioner, along with the Assistant Commissioner Himanshu Jain and District Revenue Officer Jashanjeet Singh, inspected the record rooms in the District Administrative Complex.

He said the need of the hour was to preserve the key records stored in these rooms for which the proposal was send to the state government, a few months back. Sharma said the state government had recently approved Rs 8 crore for maintaining the record room of four districts viz. Jalandhar, Bathinda, Ludhiana and SAS Nagar (Mohali) on scientific lines.

Likewise, the Deputy Commissioner said the Godrej Company that had been entrusted with the task of executing this work would start the work from coming months.

He said the project would be completed in a phased manner. The Deputy Commissioner further said the district was having a valuable record, which needed to be maintained in a proper manner.

He said the focus was being laid on duly preserving this record through concerted efforts for which this project was being initiated.

Sharma also asked the officers to ensure the proper upkeep of record until the work was not completed. He said any sort of apathy in maintaining the record was unwarranted and undesirable.
