Second relief claimant in cop murder case

JALANDHAR: A city-based woman, claiming to be the first wife of slain Punjab Police constable Gurdeep Singh, said today that she was the actual claimant of the compensation to be given by the government.

A city-based woman, claiming to be the first wife of slain Punjab Police constable Gurdeep Singh, said today that she was the actual claimant of the compensation to be given by the government.

Gurdeep Singh, who hails from Jalandhar and was posted with the Special Task Force, was killed by drug peddlers last week during an operation. The woman held a press conference to show pictures of her marriage with the policeman.

She said she and her five-year-old daughter were left to fend for themselves after Gurdeep’s death. She alleged that while hers was an arranged marriage and she had good relations with Gurdeep till the last six months, but he went on for a second marriage about six months ago. She said she was being suppressed to keep quiet as it could affect his career in the Punjab Police. 

She said she went in a shock on hearing about Gurdeep’s death and could not even attend his cremation.
