Woman assaulted

Phagwara: Sandeep Kaur, a resident of Onkar Nagar, in a complaint to the police, alleged that Sukhwinder, Mukul, Ashu and Lucky, all residents of Rattanpura, assaulted her and damaged her Swift Car (PB-09-3610), when she was returning home on Monday night. The police have registered a case under Sections 341, 323, 354, 506, 379, 427 and 49 of the IPC. No arrest has been made in this regard so far. OC

Major fire averted

Phagwara: A major tragedy was averted with the alertness of a few employees of an eating joint as around six shops were saved from a fire that caused by electric and telephone wires near Elite Cinema on the national highway on Tuesday night. Residents informed the fire brigade and PSPCL employees. Though the PSPCL staff reached the spot, they returned after advising people to use clay or sand to control the fire. They even did not bother to switch off the power lines. The power supply was switched off only when some residents approached XEN, Phagwara, Ashok Sabharwal, who came into action and asked the SDO, Model Town, to switch off the supply. Later, the fire personnel controlled the fire. OC
