British Columbia varsity prof talks about climate change

LUDHIANA: The Department of Soil and Water Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), in collaboration with the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (Punjab chapter), organised a seminar on ‘Improving sustainability at the food-energy water nexus in changing world’ here today.

The Department of Soil and Water Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), in collaboration with the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (Punjab chapter), organised a seminar on ‘Improving sustainability at the food-energy water nexus in changing world’ here today.

Dr Mark Johnson, Associate Professor, University of British Columbia, and Canada Research Chair, Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability, Vancouver, delivered a talk during the event.

Johnson was accompanied by Christopher Gibbins, Consulate General of Canada. Scientists from the Departments of Soil and Water Engineering, Agronomy, Soil Science and Civil Engineering, PAU, attended the talk.

Dr Jaskarn Mahal, Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, PAU, was the chief guest.

Johnson gave a broad view of the research work on different aspects of climate change, sustainable water management solutions and urban hydrology being conducted in the University of British Columbia.

He discussed various adaptation strategies that can be helpful under the changing climate. During deliberations, the scientists were able to identify areas of mutual interest where future collaborations were possible.

Earlier, Dr Rajan Aggarwal, Head, Department of Soil and Water Engineering, welcomed the chief guest, key speaker and the participants. Later, Dr Samanpreet Kaur, Social Secretary, Department of Soil and Water Engineering, proposed a vote of thanks.
