BJP announces candidates for Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Mizoram Assembly elections

NEW DELHI: The BJP announced 77 candidates for November election to Chhattisgarh’s 90-member Assembly late on Saturday evening.

The Bharatiya Janata Party announced 77 candidates for November election to Chhattisgarh’s 90-member Assembly late on Saturday evening.

Senior BJP leader JP Nadda, who announced the list of after the party’s CEC—its highest decision-making body—held a meeting, said his party had made “an effort to include people from all background”.

Fourteen of the 77 candidates announced on Saturday are women. An IAS officer and three doctors are also among BJP’s candidates.

Chief Minister Raman Singh’s name figures in the list. He will be contesting from Rajnandgaon.

The BJP also announced 13 candidates for Mizoram’s 40-member Assembly. All 13 candidates are Christians.

The CEC also finalised 38 candidates for the Telangana assembly elections.

Chhattisgarh is scheduled to hold elections in two phases, on November 12 and 20, and Mizoram on November 28. Telangana’s elections are scheduled for December 7.   

The BJP’s CEC also expressed condolences over the Amritsar train accident that has killed at least 60 people.
