Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday appointed senior leader Ahmed Patel the treasurer of All India Congress Committee relieving 90-year-old Motilal Vora from the post.
Vora was positioned as General Secretary (administration), a new post.
Patel, 69, was political advisor to former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and was long in the fray to be AICC Treasurer. Patel has served as Congress Treasurer in the past also.
The appointment is part of Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing move to infuse fresh blood in the grand old party.
The replacement of Vora comes just a day after Gopalkrishna Gandhi, recipient of 2017 Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavna Award described Vora as “someone who hasn’t been affected by the tides of time”.
Rahul Gandhi also appointed former Speaker Meira Kumar as permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee, while former minister Anand Sharma was named chairman of the party’s foreign cell department in place of Karan Singh.
