Two days after meeting BJP president Amit Shah, Bollywood actor Sunny Deol joined the party here on Tuesday.

He joined the party in the presence of Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.

Welcoming him, Nirmala Sitharaman called the actor a firebrand, who was committed to his art form.

Appreciating his work in ‘Border’, she said Deol has touched the people with his nationalist image and he was someone who understood the pulse of the people.

The BJP later in the evening named him as party candidate from Gurdaspur. Deol had met the party president Amit Shah two days back at an airport in Pune.

The BJP is contesting from three of the 13 parliamentary seats in Punjab.
