Faridkot, July 15

As the admission for 1,135 MBBS seats in eight medical colleges in the state is mired in litigation and controversies, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) on Monday postponed the declaration of the result of the first round of counselling for the third time.

“As the matter of micro-reservation quota needs to be argued in the High Court again, so the result of the first round of counselling shall be kept in abeyance till July 19 as per the directions of the state government,” said Dr Raj Bahadur, BFUHS Vice Chancellor.

A week after the Punjab and Haryana High Court allowed 1 per cent micro-reservation quota each to different categories such as sports, terror-affected families, border area, backward area, freedom fighters and Punjab Police on government quota seats in private medical colleges of the state, some students have now knocked the doors of the HC, demanding this reservation in management quota seats as well.

The result of the first round of admission for 1,135 MBBS seats was scheduled to be announced on July 8. After being put off two times, the result was likely to be announced on July 16. But the BFUHS has again deferred it till July 19.

In another writ petition in the High Court, parents of many medical aspirants have demanded action against those 121 students who had applied under the state quota for admission to the MBBS course in Punjab and also sought domicile benefit in other states as well.

Likely to be out by July 19

"As the matter of micro-reservation quota needs to be argued in the High Court again, so the result of the first round of counselling for the MBBS seats shall be kept in abeyance till July 19 as per the directions of the state government." Dr Raj Bahadur, Vice Chancellor, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences
