SAD: Shift ‘biased’ police chiefs

CHANDIGARH: The SAD today asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) to transfer out all police officers who had allegedly played a partisan role in favour of the Congress as heads of police districts during the panchayat, block samiti and zila parishad elections.

Chandigarh, April 18

The SAD today asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) to transfer out all police officers who had allegedly played a partisan role in favour of the Congress as heads of police districts during the panchayat, block samiti and zila parishad elections.

Submitting a complaint, SAD senior vice-president Daljeet Singh Cheema alleged that during the block samiti and zila parishad elections, booth capturing and bogus voting incidents were reported at various places, mostly in Muktsar district. He alleged that SAD supporters were threatened and even expelled from polling booths.

Cheema claimed that it was shocking that out of these 54 booths, 36 were situated in Muktsar which was under the direct control of the ruling party’s hand-picked district police head Manjit Singh Dhesi. — TNS
