Canal water is not to be used for drinking purposes, till all canals get fresh water up to the tail end in the next 24 hours, said Environment Minister OP Soni.

He said the situation in the Beas due to the molasses spill from a sugar mill was being constantly monitored. The panel probing the matter would submit its report by Tuesday.

Soni said senior officials of the PPCB and the Irrigation Department were continuously reviewing the situation at the grass-roots level and all canals would get fresh water up to the tail end in the next 24 hours. He said to deal with the situation arising due to molasses spill, 2,000 cusecs of water from Ranjit Sagar Dam had already been infused into the Beas. “The situation has now improved,” he said. — TNS
