A 25-year-old boy died after a traffic barrier pole installed at a railway crossing in Udekaran village, near here, cracked and fell on him on Saturday.
The deceased, Jagandeep Singh, native of Aulakh village in Gurdapur district, was a driver of an earthmoving machine. He was riding a motorcycle when the pole fell on his head. He had come to the village to inquire about the health of a friend.
The incident took place immediately after a train crossed the railway crossing.
Jagandeep was taken to a private hospital, but the doctors declared him brought dead.
Meanwhile, the local railway officials said it was a mishap and an inquiry would be marked in this regard.
