Commonwealth Games silver medallist Manish Kaushik (63kg) out-punched Kyrgyzstan’s Uulu Argen Kadyrbek to enter the second round of the men’s World Boxing Championships here today. Kaushik prevailed 5-0 in the lopsided bout. He will next face Netherlands’ Enrico Lacruz.
The only Indian in action today, Kaushik was advised to keep his distance from Kadyrbek by his corner and he executed the plan to perfection. — PTI
Eight Haryana boxers in finals, 3 from Punjab
Rohtak: Haryana dominated the proceedings at the 3rd Junior Women’s National Boxing Championships with eight boxers progressing to the finals here today. Punjab were also ensured three silver medals. Haryana’s Preeti Dahiya (60kg) overcame a tough challenge posed by Manipur’s Thongam Devi, winning 3-2. Tannu (52kg), Khushi (63kg), Kalpana (46kg) and Neha (54kg) made it look easy with impressive 5-0 wins against their respective opponents. Tamanna (48kg), Rinku (50kg) and Lashu Yadav (66kg) also stood victorious in their semifinal bouts. Tamanna was made to sweat for her 3-2 win by Uttarakhand’s Nivedita.
For Punjab, Anjali (70kg), Tanishvir Sandhu (80kg) and Khushi (75kg) won their respective semifinal bouts. Chandigarh’s Divya Negi (60kg) also advanced to the finals with a convincing 4-1 win over Sandhya Shaik from Maharashtra. North East also shone in the semifinals with four boxers making it to the finals. Four boxers from Maharashtra also ensured berths in the finals. Kalpana (54kg) and Isha Gurjar (57kg) from Rajasthan and Mahi Lamba (66kg) from Madhya Pradesh were the other winners. pti
