The women’s compound team of V Jyothi Surekha, Trisha Deb and P Lily Chanu ended India’s campaign with a historic silver medal in the World Archery Championships in Mexico City. The trio lost 234-228 to fourth seeds Colombia in the final.

This is India’s fifth silver medal in the World Championships and the first one for the compound women’s team ever. The medal brought extra joy to birthday girl Trisha, who turned 26.

Speaking to The Tribune over phone, Trisha said that even though they wanted to win the gold, winning the silver medal was certainly not a small achievement for them and this would certainly boost their morale for the major competitions in the future.

Coach Jiwanjot Singh Teja said the team was ecstatic as it had worked really hard. Tarlochan Singh, president of the Archery Association of India, said that the three women had made the country proud.
