Enemy Ships Employed by India Office

MR. Cooper's report on the Indian Home Accounts for the year 1915-16 gives some interesting information about the employment of enemy ships by the Government of India Office. The financial transactions resulting from their employment are shown in the accounts under the head deposits and advances amounting to £188,461, 7s. 8d. under payments. These amounts represent the transactions brought to account up to 31st March, 1916, and they refer to the working of 12 German vessels which were detained in Indian ports at the outbreak of war and were transferred to the management of the India Office at various dates.
