A resident of Ferozepur was booked for allegedly duping five persons of Rs 8.45 lakh on the pretext of proving jobs in government departments, including the Railways.
The accused has been identified as Surjeet Singh, a resident of Sodhewala village in Ferozepur district.
On the complaint of Varinder Kumar, a resident of Bathinda district, a case under Section 420 of the IPC was registered against the accused at the Rampura City police station.
Varinder told the police that a few days ago, he came in the contact of Surjeet Singh through his known ones. He said the accused asked him to pay Rs 3 lakh for getting a job in the Railways. The complainant said a deal was struck at Rs 2.50 lakh and accused Surjeet took all money from him. He said the accused neither returned the money nor got the job provided.
Surjeet also took Rs 6.25 lakh from other four persons. Later, Varinder filed a complaint with the SSP’s office and an enquiry was marked to the economics offender wing.
Bhupinderjeet Singh, investigating officer, said accused Surjeet Singh was on the run. He added that a police team conducted raids at his village, but he managed to escape. The police officer said the accused would be nabbed soon.
