Soon after the UT Administration decided to set up a temporary jail at the Mani Majra Sports Complex, the officials from the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh and UT Sports Department sanitised the arena.

Covid impact

  • Though all the sports complexes in the city are shut for general public and trainees, the employees guarding these arenas have been provided sanitisers to maintain the hygiene.
  • Also, construction of the Sector 17 Football Stadium has been put on hold, while the schedule for the all-weather swimming pool has also been delayed.

It was for the second time in the last 10 days that the complex was sanitised. “The arena was sanitised for the second time keeping in mind the latest orders of the UT Administration. The step has been taken to avoid any kind of infection, if some arrests are made,” said an official.

“The stadium has a capacity to adjust over 800 people. We have been asked to sanitise the area before the Chandigarh Police set up their base here,” the official added.

The sports complex is spread over 15 acres and houses swimming pool, wrestling arena, squash and badminton courts, table tennis court and other facilities.
