Chandigarh, November 20
Chandigarh Athletics Association (CAA) paid homage to late Milkha Singh on his birth anniversary, at DAV College, Sector 10, here today.
Milkha, who died of post-Covid complications on June 18, was one of the most sought-after personalities of the city.
Though the CAA and UT Sports Department failed to fulfil Milkha’s dream of having a synthetic track for the city athletes, the sports body today unveiled the Flying Sikh’s 30-feet long portrait.
Artist Varun Tandon made Milkha's portrait with lime powder, which is usually used to mark athletics track.
“It took almost a month to make this portrait. I made this portrait the same as Milkha’s iconic picture in which he is seen running,” said Tandon.
The event was attended by Ravider Chaudhry, secretary general, Athletics Federation of India; Tejdeep Singh Saini, Director, Sports Department; CAA president Harjinder Singh Gill and secretary Jaspinder Singh. — TNS
