Chandigarh, January 28
Two persons, including a scientist working with the CSIO, fell prey to online fraud. They were duped to the tune of Rs 5 lakh.
Complainant Shravan Kumar, chief scientist, CSIO, Sector 30, reported that some unidentified person(s) siphoned off Rs 2.93 lakh from his bank account through multiple transactions.
The police were informed following which a case was registered at the cybercrime police station.
In another incident, complainant B Devadatha of Sector 39 reported that an unidentified person called him posing as a bank executive. The suspect asked the complainant to update a bank application and sent a link through WhatsApp.
As asked, the complainant filled his credit card details and later found that transactions worth Rs 2.09 lakh were made. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
