Chandigarh, February 10

The police arrested two persons and booked another for duping a Rajouri native on the pretext of sending him abroad.

Those arrested have been identified as Premjit Singh, alias Yuvraj, 36, of Jalandhar and Jaspreet Singh, alias Devender, 35, of Phase 7, Mohali. They were produced in a court, which sent them to three-day police remand. Jass Bajwa, alias Shallka Wadhwa, the owner of The Sapphire, an immigration firm in Sector 17, has been booked in the case.

In his complaint to the police, Hritik Bhardwaj stated that the suspects duped him of Rs 14 lakh. A case under Sections 420, 506, 120 of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 17 police station on December 6 2023.

Moreover, six-seven more complaints had been received against Wadhwa and the firm for cheating them on the pretext of sending them abroad, the police said, adding that the total fraud was to the tune of Rs 60 lakh.
