Top seed Anuj sails into semis

Top seed Anuj Pal packed off Shorya Jishtu in straight sets to seal a spot in the boys’ U-12 semifinals in the Roots-AITA Challenge Series (CS-7) National Rankings Championship at Zirakpur today. Anuj won 6-2 6-4.

Lavam Makharia blanked Vismay Nair 6-0 6-0, while second seed Anhad Singh overcame Shounak Chatterjee in the quarterfinals.

Anhad won the opening set 6-3, but Chatterjee drew level with a 6-4 win in the second set. Anhad though regained his composure and seized the decider 6-4 to move in the last-four.  

Devansh Parajuli rallied from a set down to beat Dev Pratap Singh in the last-eight contest. 

Parajuli lost the first set 2-6, but came back strongly to win the next two sets 6-3 6-0 to stay alive in the competition. 

Harwin advances 

In the boys’ U-14 quarterfinals, Harwin Singh humbled Hardik Khanduja 6-4 6-1, while Yashasvi Bhalhara edged out Kanvarpreet Singh 6-2 6-3. 

Arnav Bhishnoi was made to sweat by Yash Jindal before he secured a place in the semifinals. 

Bhishnoi won the first set 6-3, but Jindal managed to reverse the result in the second set to stay in the match. Bhishnoi though prevailed 6-3 over his opponent in the final set to make it to the semis.

Sidhak moves ahead

Sidhak Kaur, meanwhile, downed Rasha Dhaliwal 6-3 7-6(5) in the girls’ U-12 quarters.

Shrawasti Kundilya registered a 6-1 6-2 win over Tamanna Walia, while Inayat Juneja defeated Niharika Moudgil 6-1 7-6(5) to book a berth in the semifinals. 

Vanya in quarters

In the girls’ U-14 competition, top seed Vanya Arora ousted Akshdha Sharma to move into the quarterfinals. Vanya won 6-1 6-2 in pre-quarters. 

Anandita Sharma dismissed Rasha Dhaliwal 6-3 6-3, while Meher Kaur humbled Sidhak Kaur 6-3 6-2. Kashvi Singla overcame Yana Gupta 6-3 1-6 6-1 in the pre-quarterfinals. 

Shriya Singh registered a 6-2 3-6 6-0 win over Khushi Sharma and Poonam defeated Disha Behra 6-4 6-3 in the last-16 contest.
