Unknown youth booked for assaulting constable

CHANDIGARH: An unidentified youth has been booked for assaulting a police constable and deterring him from discharging his duty.

Chandigarh, December 25

An unidentified youth has been booked for assaulting a police constable and deterring him from discharging his duty.

According to the police, Constable Wazir Singh reported that while he was on duty on December 24, he received a message that there was some dispute at the community centre in Kishangarh. Wazir, along with ASI Raghbir Singh and Head Constable Ashok Kumar, reached at the spot and found two groups arguing with each other over some issue.

The police team tried to pacify both the parties, who then entered into a scuffle.

The police said while Constable Wazir was talking to a member of one of the groups, a youth came from behind and hit him. The suspect then escaped from the spot.

Constable Wazir gave a complaint today, following which a case under Sections 147 (rioting), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the IT Park police station.

The police have started an investigation into the case.
