Chandigarh, December 12
Taking their fight forward, allottees of the UT Employees’ Housing Scheme today held a rally at a park in Sector 20 here and expressed their anger over the failure to build houses.
The agitated allottees rued it has been around seven to eight years to the current dispensation, but their case has not reached its logical end. Later in the day, city BJP chief Arun Sood called them for a meeting.
Sood assured them of taking up the matter with Home Minister Amit Shah and getting the needful done. He said due to model code of conduct, they would not be able to do much at this moment. However, his assurances failed to cut any ice with the angry allottees.
Dr Dharmender, president of the union, said if the needful was not done soon, they would campaign against the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The members said even after over a decade, there was no respite for 3,930 allottees, who were selected through a draw of lot for the self-financing housing scheme. The draw of lots for the scheme was conducted on November 4, 2010. — TNS
