Amritsar, July 15

Days after Veerumal Mulkh Raj Jain rice mill owner along with his family was booked for allegedly bungling government paddy and defrauding banks to the tune of hundreds of crores of rupees, another rice mill located on the Tarn Taran road has come under scanner.

The CBI has asked the vigilance wings of various banks, which have granted loan to the rice mill, to investigate the same. The development comes after an RTI activist complained to the CBI about it.

The complainant, Gurmeet Singh, aka Bablu, who is also the president of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Youth Front, has alleged that the mill committed fraud on the lines of Veerumal Mulkh Raj rice mill. A bank, in a communiqué to Bablu, has asked him to confirm his identity as they have received a complaint through CBI.

Bablu has urged the CBI to take the passports of all the directors of the firm so that they may not flee abroad like the owners of Veerumal Mulkh Raj rice mill. In the case of eerumal Mulkh Raj rice mill, the owners took loan limits worth hundreds of crores of rupees from banks by showing the government paddy as their own. When the incident came to light, the accused fled to Canada. Now, the Vigilance Bureau has been investigating the case.— TNS
