Since the beginning of the counting of votes nationwide, the BJP and its allies had a reason to rejoice but the situation in the city was a bit different as the party workers were in a dilemma over whether or not to celebrate the occasion amid party candidate Hardeep Singh Puri losing to Congress’ Gurjeet Singh Aujla. Later, Puri’s defeat was eclipsed by the NDA’s overall victory.

Despite the major victory of the BJP at the Centre, the party’s district office at Khanna Samark wore a deserted look till evening. After the BJP touched 300 seats, state president Shwait Malik announced celebrations following which party workers were called to Khanna Samark and sweets were distributed.

BJP district president Anand Sharma said under the leadership of state president Shwait Malik, the BJP had been strengthened in the state. The state BJP won two out of three seats in the state. “We accepted the verdict of the public of Amritsar. Last time, the BJP was defeated with 1.50 lakh votes, but now the party has got strengthened in the city. The results from the rural areas are not satisfactory,” he added. — TNS
