Chandigarh, December 10

Demanding implementation of the UT Administration’s decision to make Sector 17 a no-vending zone, traders of the sector today announced their agitation plan.

Neeraj Bajaj, president of a joint action committee of Sector 17, said the plan had been finalised in an urgent meeting of the panel today.

Under the plan, the Sector market shall remain closed in the evening from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm and there will be a peaceful candle march at the Lyons Restaurant Block on December 12.

On December 14, traders will assemble at the MC office to ‘awaken’ MC officials with ‘dhol’ and ‘nagara’ beats. Then, the traders will organise ‘phadi’ bazaar on December 17.

If the MC still does not take action on their demand, they will lock their shops and hand over the keys to the MC Commissioner on December 19.

The meeting was attended by Subash Kataria, Jagdishpal Kalra, Sanjeev Chaddha, LC Arora, Virender Guleria, Kamaljit Panchi, HS Gujral, Vinod Arora, Praveen Gulati and Ashok Sachdeva.

The traders said they were forced to adopt the protest way to protect the Sector 17 market from further damage as it had already lost its beauty and business as it is swarming with vendors.
