Sunny, Puja make it to national finals

Gurugram golfers Sunny Sodhi and Puja Batra qualified for the national finals of MercedesTrophy 2019 on the second day of the Gurugram leg at the ITC Classic Golf and Country Resort here on Wednesday. 

Sodhi, competing in the handicap category A (0-17), carded a nett score of 72, while Puja, who competed in the handicap category B (18-24), scored a 73.8 to make it to finals, scheduled to be held in Pune from March 27. 

The MercedesTrophy 2019 has so far seen 28 qualifiers. 

Nearly 100 city golfers participated on the second day of the Gurugram leg and another 100 golfers will compete for the remaining two qualifications spots on the final day.

Gurugram’s Sidharth Chaudhary (CAT A) and Prabhat Agarwal (CAT B) had qualified for the national finals on the opening day of the competition. Chaudhary and Agarwal carded a nett score of 72.8 and 73.4 respectively. 

Sushant Khanna won the Ballantine’s Long Drive Challenge with a mammoth drive of 310 yards. Sunil Nagpal won the Standard Chartered Closest to Pin contest on the 17th hole by landing the ball 3 ft 7 inches from the pin.
