Shimla, October 4
Roughly a month after Himachal became the first state to inoculate cent percent of its eligible population with the first covid-19 vaccine dose, the hill state has achieved another milestone by vaccinating 50 per cent of the eligible population with the second dose.
“Out of the total of 55.23 lakh eligible 18 plus beneficiaries, over 27.82 lakh people have been vaccinated with the second dose,” said a government spokesperson. “After inoculating the cent percent eligible population with the first dose ahead of any other state, efforts are on to repeat the feat with the second dose as well,” the spokesperson added.

For a state with difficult terrain and inclement weather, the pace of the vaccination drive is remarkable. The Health Department is hopeful of achieving full immunization of the eligible beneficiaries by November end.
Another remarkable feature of the campaign has been zero vaccine wastage while wastage in many states has run into double figures.
The spokesperson said that all individuals who have become eligible for second dose are being sent SMS for second dose on their registered mobile phones. “In the past two days, over 8.45 lakh individuals have been sent these messages,” said the spokesperson.
