Robbers struck again in Gurugram and this time, they robbed a cash van of around Rs 1 crore at gunpoint in broad daylight on the busy Sohna road.
The miscreants threw chilli powder in the eyes of the caretaker and driver of the van and held them hostage at gunpoint before fleeing with the cash.
According to the police, the incident happened around 2.45 pm today when an employee of S&IB Company, identified as Akhilesh, went to collect cash from a Maruti showroom located on Sohna road near Subhash Chowk.
Driver Ranjit and caretaker Vipin were in the van parked outside the showroom. In the meantime, three armed men came there in a car. They first threw chilli powder in their eyes, held the duo at gunpoint and fled with a bag of cash containing Rs 96,32,931.
After getting information, a team led by Aman Yadav, ACP-Sadar, and teams of crime units reached the spot. Police officials said that they have got CCTV footage from the crime scene which is being examined.
Late in the evening, an FIR was registered under various Sections of the IPC at Sadar police station. An employee of the cash van, Vipin, told the police that they had collected money from 10 points and about Rs 1 crore were in the van which was to be deposited in HDFC Bank, sector 53.
The police in their official statement highlighted security lapses on part of the cash-collection company.
"They had no locker, no security. The panes of rear and front seats were down. This made them vulnerable," read the statement.
