Palwal, February 17

A 30-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by a group of over 12 persons near Gelpur village on Friday. The victim has been identified as Jugender, a resident of Gugera village in the district.

An old enmity is reported to be the cause of the murder. No one has been arrested in the case so far.

According to the police sources, the incident took place on Friday night when the victim was returning to his village on a motorcycle, after attending a marriage ceremony at Gelpur village.

It is reported that around 12 to 16 persons abducted him near the village bus stand and took him to the forest of Kairaka village in a vehicle, where they assaulted him with sticks, iron rods and sharp weapons.

After the victim fell unconscious, they called one Sandeep of Gugera to inform him that Jugender had been killed and the family could collect his body from the forest.

When the victim’s kin reached the spot, they found that Jugender was still alive and took him to the civil hospital. He was referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, but succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

According to the complaint lodged by Rakesh, the deceased’s uncle, Jugender managed to reveal names of some of the accused — Krishan, Vishnu, Pawan, Rohit , Mohit , Ajit, Bobby, Karnal, Azad, Bharat of Gelpur village, Lalit of Behrola and Sule of Kairaka village.

Police spokesperson Sanjay Kumar said while 12 accused have been booked by name, the case has also been registered against some unidentified suspects.
