Rohtak youth, fiancée shot before marriage; family discord suspected

In a daring double murder executed in broad daylight, a local youth and his fiancée were gunned down in front of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) Gate No. 1 near Delhi bypass on the outskirts of Rohtak city on Wednesday.

Rohtak SP Rahul Sharma has constituted a special investigation team (SIT) led by a DSP to probe the case.

The SIT constituted by the district police authorities arrested Pooja’s paternal uncle Kuldeep, his wife Munni, son Manjit and Kuldeep’s brother-in-law’s son Vikas within hours. 

Preliminary investigations indicate that Kuldeep is suspected to be amongst the assailants and some property-related family discord is stated to be the reason behind the double murder.

“Pooja of Kanheli village in Rohtak district got separated from Mohit of Jatkheri village in Jhajjar district. She wanted to marry Rohit of Bakheta village in Rohtak district. Pooja and Rohit were going towards the court for marriage purpose today, but were shot on the way,” said a police spokesperson.

Rohit’s brother also received bullet injuries in the shootout, he added.
