Panipat, September 13
The state government has sanctioned a grant of Rs 30.99 crore for the Old Industrial Area to improve infrastructure, including roads, footpaths, streetlights, sewerage and drains. Around 300 small and big industrial units are located in the Old Industrial Area.
Industries Minister Vipul Goel had on July 28 last year anounced Rs 31 crore for improving infrastructure in the area. The Haryana State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) authorities claimed that detailed project report had almost been finalised and tender would be allotted in a month.
Industrialists in the Old Industrial Area had complained of poor sanitation, choked sewers, broken roads and non-functional streetlights for many years.
Vinod Dhamija, exporter and member of the Old Industrial Area Manufacturers’ Association, said they had raised the issue of pathetic condition of basic amenities many times. “We feel ashamed many times when buyers visit our plants,” he said.
Rajbeer Singh, XEN, HSIIDC, said the sector was established in 1949 and handed over to the HSIIDC in 2012. “The Industries Department in August sanctioned a project to improve infrastructure,” he said. Some industrialists had raised issues, which were resolved, he said. All roads would be laid using cement and concrete, he added. Vinod Katyal, Estate Manager, HSIIDC, said the government had sanctioned the grant for Rs 30.99 crore and work tender would be allotted soon.
