Jalandhar, September 17

Months since the PAP Chowk flyover has primarily only one side working, Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today asked the police, Transport Department and the Municipal Corporation to jointly devise a mechanism by taking up the matter with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for starting the traffic to facilitate commuters.

Chairing a meeting of the Road Safety Committee here today at the District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner said the flyover needs to be made operational to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city. He said the operationalisation of the flyover would ensure that the traffic coming to the city and going towards Amritsar and Pathankot was streamlined.

Sharma said the police, Transport Department and the corporation should hold a meeting with NHAI officials and ensure its early resolution at the earliest, adding that he would also take up the matter at the appropriate level.

The flyover has not got operational due to technical defects which led to accidents at the point of merger of the traffic from the Jalandhar-Amritsar service lane with the Ludhiana-Amritsar leg of the flyover.

The DC also said the NHAI would also be asked to get approach roads of the national highway repaired to facilitate commuters. He saidnecessary directions would be issued in this regard.
