Hoshiarpur: A man died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle. According to information, Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Chaggran village, told the police that his son Sukhwinder Singh (42) worked as a carpenter in Adda Chaggran. He said Sukhwinder was crossing the road to collect some goods when an unidentified vehicle hit him. He took him to the hospital where doctors declared dead on arrival. The Chabbewal police have registered a case. OC
Four nabbed with drugs
Hoshiarpur: The police have arrested four persons from various places and recovered drugs from their possession. As per information, the CIA wing of the police arrested Rajkumar, alias Bhau, a resident of Bahadurpur Gate, and recovered 50 grams of heroin, a weighing scale and some envelopes from him. The police said they got a tip-off that the suspect was selling drugs after coming out of jail. A case had been registered in this regard. The Model Town police, meanwhile, arrested a person and recovered 110 grams of intoxicating powder from him. The suspect has been identified as Sandeep Kumar, alias Deepu, a resident of Kamalpur. The Dasuya police arrested Balwinder Kumar, alias Binda, and Yogesh Singh, alias Vicky, residents of Kripal Colony, Dasuya, at a naka and recovered intoxicating injections from them. OC
Couple booked for cheating
Phagwara: The Nakodar City police have booked a couple on the charge of breach of trust and cheating. Investigating officer (IO) Dilbag Singh said the suspects had been identified as Jon Masih, alias Jain Masih, a resident of Dhinna village falling under the Jalandhar Sadar police station and presently living in Ashok Vihar colony, Nakodar, and his wife Bina. Paramjit Kaur, a resident of Mohalla Guru Nanak Pura, told the police that the suspects cheated her of Rs 5 lakh by signing an agreement to sell a property already mortgaged with a bank. She said the suspects later assured her of returning the money. They, however, did not return the money. A case under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC has been registered. OC
Burglars strike at showroom
Phagwara: A showroom of Mart-1 was reportedly burgled in Urban Estate locality in Phagwara in the wee hours on Saturday. Laghu Udhyog Bharti president and showroom owner Pankaj Gautam told the police that three unidentified burglars, who were captured on CCTV camera, committed the crime. One of them entered the showroom after breaking the frame of the exhaust fan, while two others waited for him outside. Valuable goods were found stolen. Though the CCTV footage has been handed over to the police, no case has been registered yet.
