Jalandhar, February 5
Armed miscreants targeted the residence of Balram, an arhtiya, in Sheetal Nagar here early this morning and allegedly decamped with Rs 11 lakh in cash and jewellery.
The suspects forcibly entered the house and held Balram’s wife Pushpa and child hostage at gunpoint.
In his statement to the police, the victim said three masked robbers barged into his house and held the family hostage at gunpoint before ransacking the premises.
According to him, the suspects entered the house around 6:15 am and fled the spot around 6:35 am after committing the robbery. The robbers asked them about money and valuables threatening them with dire consequences.
The complainant said the suspects, who came on motorcycles, entered the house by jumping off the main wall at the entrance gate.
ACP (North) Damanveer Singh said though on the basis of the information, a case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered, they were sceptical of the incident due to inconsistencies in statements provided by the victim’s family and the absence of any CCTV evidence.
He said the family had not yet shared any documentary proof about the exact amount of cash and jewellery robbed. However, all aspects in the case, including the involvement of any insider, were being investigated.
