20 ACB officers to be trained under CBI

To tackle and eradicate the “deep-rooted” corruption from the administration in a more effective and meaningful manner, the state administration has decided to depute 20 officers of the newly constituted Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to the CBI Academy in Ghazibad to get training for the professional investigation of graft cases.

According to an official order issued on Thursday 20, officers, including an SSP, an SP, nine Deputy Superintendent of Police and nine inspectors, have been deputed for a 10-day training programme at the Ghazibad academy from July 22 to August 2.

The order has been issued by the vigilance section, general administrative of the J&K administration, in response to a letter by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Sources said the decision to depute these officers for special training had been taken following reports that officers in the Anti-Corruption Bureau of J&K lacked technical knowledge to effectively pursue graft cases.

Although the state government had renamed the Vigilance Organisation as the Anti-Corruption Bureau in October 2018, many tainted officers/officials have managed to escape due to lack of training among the officers deputed in the newly formed bureau.

On October 26, 2018, the State Administrative Council had amended the Jammu and Kashmir Prevention of Corruption Act, 2006, and the Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Commission Act, 2011. Following this, the bureau was established to do away with the shortcomings in the existing anti-corruption mechanism.

As officers from the J&K Police have been deputed to the Anti-Corruption Bureau, the administration has decided to impart them special training to investigate corruption cases in a scientific manner, so as to take graft cases to a logical conclusion.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his first visit to Kashmir on June 27, had directed officers to declare war against corruption.
