Seven persons, including three children, were injured in a fire incident that occurred due to LPG leakage at Rajan Colony in Giaspura late on Tuesday night. The injured persons have been admitted to different hospitals while a case has been registered against the man who was refilling the LPG from bigger cylinders to smaller ones in his room in the colony.
Gaurav Jha, a resident of Rajan Colony, was illegally transferring the LPG from a cylinder to a smaller one when the washer of the big cylinder broke and the gas gushed out of the same. Unfortunately, migrants of the colony were performing some pooja at the time by lighting diyas around the place. Within no time, the gas came in contact with the fire and the incident occurred. The incident left seven persons, including three children, badly injured. The suspect was admitted in a serious condition to Mohandai Oswal Hospital along with Chote Lal (23). Of the injured, Pawan Gira (18) Sahil (10) and Sakshi (13) are undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital. Vijay Kumar (24) and Rohit (10) were referred to the PGI, Chandigarh, by doctors at the Civil Hospital.
According to Chowki in-charge, Kanganwal, Jasvir Singh, Gaurav was illegally filling the LPG from big cylinders to smaller ones when the incident occurred. “Fire brigade were called to extinguish the fire. The injured were admitted to hospitals where they are undergoing treatment,” he added.
Meanwhile, the incident has spread panic among residents who are seeking action in the matter.
“The illegal act has given a tough time to a number of families whose members are admitted to hospitals,” onlookers said.
SHO, Sahnewal, Guljinder Singh, said a case had been registered against Gaurav on the complaint of Dilbag Singh of the same colony under Sections 285, 336, 337 and 338 of the IPC this evening. The investigation is on and the guilty should not be spared,” he said.
