The Ludhiana (rural) police claimed to have busted a gang of miscreants that had been involved in stealing vehicles and selling these with the help of fake documents at much cheaper prices by arresting its eight members.
Sixteen vehicles — Mahindra Bolero, Piaggio Auto-richshaw and 14 bikes — were seized from eight vehicle thieves.
A case has been registered and the accused have been identified as Pardeep Singh Deepa of Daulatpur, Nawanshahr, Varinder Singh Prince of Tibba Road, Ludhiana, Jagdish Singh, of Jugiana, Ludhiana, Manpreet Singh Maapi of Veerowal, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Sanjit Kumar of Jugiana, Ludhiana, Bhajan Ram of Model Town, Ramgarh Sardaran (Malaudh), Jagga Singh of Jugiana, Ludhiana, and Sandeep Singh Gora of Dudhal (Malaudh).
The SSP, Ludhiana (rural), Rajbachan Singh Sandhu, informed that police personnel, led by in-charge of the Special Cell Prem Singh Bhangu and supervised by SP(D) Gurdeep Singh and DSP(D) Anil Bhanot, busted a gang of miscreants that had been involved in stealing vehicles from the region and selling these at throwaway prices, possibly by preparing fake documents of registration and ownership. “It was during a special campaign launched during the ensuing Assembly elections that we received information about intrusion of members of the gang into the area for selling stolen vehicles that our team succeeded in nabbing them at a naka organised on the Shekhupura Chaukiman road on Thursday night,” said SSP Rajbachan Sandhu.
Though the police are yet to ascertain criminal records of Jagga Singh and Sandeep, all other accused had already been booked under criminal cases at various police stations of the state. While the kingpin, Pardeep Singh, had been booked under six criminal cases, including, murder attempt, abetment to commit suicide and dowry death, Varinder Singh Prince had been booked in three cases, including a murder case registered at the Koom Kalan police station. Convicted for life imprisonment, he is presently on bail.
