Almost all candidates are trying to strike an emotional chord with the electorate in their respective segments by holding door-to-door campaigning.

However, veterans and elderly candidates are lagging behind in this endeavour as they find it difficult to touch the feet of senior citizens, have selfies with youngsters and lift children in their laps; like first timers and young candidates.

Zila Parishad member Prabhdeep Singh Narangwal said Raikot Congress nominee Kamil Amar Singh had paved the foundation for his election by striking an emotional chord with residents of all ages and genders. “Having inherited the trait of respecting elders irrespective of their rank and position, Kamil has been extending courtesy to all, including youngsters and his contemporaries,” said Narangwal.

Ramesh Dheer, in-charge of Ahmedgarh office of Amargarh candidate Smit Singh Mann, claimed that both Smit and his sister Simran Kaur had succeeded in penetrating families in all sections of society due to their courteous disposition. “31-year-old Smit of course feels more than comfortable than his veteran rival candidates in touching feet of all middle-aged and senior citizen voters,” said Dheer, maintaining that being an international achiever skeet shooter young voters queued to take selfies with him.

Supporters of Amargarh SSM candidate Satbir Singh Sheera claimed that Sheera had become popular among middle class families as he used to show due respect to his elders during the election campaign. “Even now we have prepared a list of elderly residents whose families Sheera will visit in the morning on Sunday and seek blessings before commencement of polling,” said the supporter.

Vijay Maudgil of Khanna said Rupinder Raja Gill and Gurkirat Kotli had also compensated the distance from the voters by seeking blessings of elderly voters after the conclusion of the campaign on Friday.
