Ludhiana: The police have nabbed Sandeep Singh of Gainda Colony in Nandpur from Sahnewal for allegedly selling psychotropic and habit-forming drugs. On a tip-off, he was nabbed with 120 tablets of Lomotil. A case under sections 22/61/85 NDPS Act has been registered against him. OC

Three nabbed for gambling

Ludhiana: The police have arrested Rakesh Kumar of Panchkula, Sanjeev Kumar of Ramesh Nagar and Pawan Kumar of Kartar Colony from Santokh Nagar on the charge of betting on a cricket match between England and West Indies. During the raid, a laptop, eight mobile phones and Rs 1,850 cash were recovered from them. They have been charged under sections 13-A/3/67 of the Gambling Act. OC

Jail HC held for carrying tobacco

Ludhiana: An IRB head constable, Pushpinder Singh, deployed at the Central Jail here, has been arrested for possession of eight sachets of "zarda" (chewing tobacco) which was found hidden in his shoes during a surprise check. On a complaint filed by Parduman Kumar, Assistant Superintendent of Central Jail, a case under sections 42/54-A of the Prison Act has been registered against him. OC

3 booked for raping minor

Ludhiana: The police have booked Manoj, his brother Arjun and their accomplice Nikku, all residents of Mand Chaunta village, under sections 376-D/506 of the IPC and sections 3/4 of the POCSO Act for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl of the same village. The girl’s mother reported to the police that the suspects outraged the modesty of her daughter in the afternoon of July 17 when she had gone to the fields to relieve herself. TNS

Minor girl goes missing

Ludhiana: Billu of Gaddowal village has reported to the police that his minor girl went missing in mysterious circumstances on July 14. His wife had gone to work leaving behind their daughter. When they came back from work, the girl was found missing. He apprehended that Arjun, a resident of Lakhowal village, might have abducted the girl on the promise of marrying her. A case has been registered. TNS

Bootleggers held, liquor seized

Ludhiana: The anti-smuggling wing of the police has arrested Uma Shankar of Bhagat Singh Colony near Cancer Hospital, Sherpur Kalan. The police recovered 12 bottles of whisky from him. A case under sections 61, 1, 14 of the Excise Act has been registered. In another raid, Sachin Kumar of Gill Colony was booked after 16 bottles of country liquor were seized from him near his house.
